E-COLI Outbreak!! Pass On The Romaine!

There has been another outbreak of E-coli poisoning from fresh produce—this time romaine lettuce.

Please, for your own health and safety, don’t purchase or consume any brand of romaine lettuce until this issue is straightened out.  The brands involved have been identified as Freshway and Imperial Sysco brands but I wouldn’t trust any of them

I’ve been through this before. You might recall that my family was poisoned during the spinach e-coli outbreak almost 4 years ago. My youngest daughter, 18 months old at the time, spent 9 days in intensive care before we knew she was going to live.

E-coli strikes the young and the elderly the worst. Those under 3 years of age and over 70 have the greatest chance of dying from exposure. The rest of us usually get the stomach flu from hell.

I’m asking you to avoid all brands of romaine because if I learned anything from my daughters near death it’s that the truth rarely comes out about the source of the bacteria and that multiple brands use a few select processing plants that could be infecting every brand run through that plant.

In fact I’d avoid all lettuce for a while for the same reason—even organic. The companies involved will never divulge the whole truth about what’s going on and the people who have gotten sick will never get to the bottom of it either—they don’t have the time or MONEY to do it.

Believe me, as soon as the report went out, damage control kicked in and we’ll never know how it all went down. If you end up in court it will probably be with a sacrificial lamb and not the real company.
