The Cold Truth

What Good Is Eating Healthy Foods If Your Body Can’t Digest Them Properly?

Just as important is the digestion of fluids.  In fact, some fluids not only don’t digest themselves in your stomach, they prohibit food digestion as well which can cause a multitude of problems.  Undigested fluid in your system eventually turns into phlegm which causes obesity, allergies, lung afflictions, headaches, tumors, depression and even dementia among other problems.

So What’s In Our Fluids That Are So Harmful?Herbal Iced Tea

Well, most times it not the content of our fluids but rather their temperature.  Iced drinks severely restrict your body’s ability to digest fluids and foods. Your digestive system is designed to work in a warm environment.  Life itself works only in a warm setting – cold is the enemy.

The reason is simple.  You need movement for foods and liquids to digest properly.  Notice what happens when you boil a cup of water on top of your stove.  It moves in what’s known as a rolling boil.  Now put that same sup of water in the freezer and check back in a while.  No movement. Frozen stiff.

Might As Well Freeze Your Digestive System

Herbal Iced TeaDrinking cold liquids replicates the freezer effect in your digestive system, freezing up the process and causing the formation of phlegm – a substance as disgusting as the word itself sounds.

Additionally, when you drink an iced beverage your body tries to compensate by sending heat to the stomach to warm up the cold liquids, resulting in a loss of energy as your system works harder than it should need to.

Surprisingly, nearly every drink these days is served iced.  But if you think about it, refrigeration is relatively a modern invention.  Our ancestors drank room temperature beverages as there was no other choice.  Only in recent years have iced drinks become popular and their effects devastating.

However, this is a easily remedied situation.  You can immediately put a stop to this production of phlegm in your system by cutting out all cold drinks.  That’s right…no more iced drinks.  No iced tea, no cold beverages directly from the refrigerator, no ice water before a meal at a restaurant.

It’s Not That Difficult

This is not nearly as difficult a proposition as you might think.  I personally gave up iced drinks some time ago and now actually prefer room temperature liquids.  Plus, I feel great.  Many Europeans don’t understand America’s obsession with iced drinks.  For proof, just travel abroad and take in the looks you’ll receive when you order a “cold one.”  They think we’re nuts.

And they’re right.  Humans were never meant to drink cold liquids.  The bottom line is that cold drinks are good for no one. Turn up the temperature and you’ll be surprised at just what a warm feeling of health you’ll receive.

Post your comments below I would really like to know what you think.

    Hey Linda,
It is easier in the winter. If you just have to have a cool beverage try swirling an ice cube in your drink for a few seconds. Over time that will satisfy your need for a refreshing drink and you’ll never go back to ice cold.

    Hi Roger,

I really enjoy reading and listening to your blogs. I have heard in the past that cold liquids puts your system in shock so I stopped drinking cold water many years ago.

    It was not that hard.

Thank you for putting this web page together for everyone to learn and enjoy.

    Happy New Year.

    Rodger,

I have a question about phlegm, since you mentioned it above. I’ve been waking up with lots of phlegm to expel (1-2 tablespoons-ish) for many weeks now, and I’m not sure what is causing it. I consume very little wheat and dairy, which I know cause excess phlegm production, I stay very well hydrated with room-temperature fluids, mostly water, and I eat a diet full of fruits and veggies. Any further suggestions?

    Thank you.
    Megan

    Hi Roger,

    Hi Roger,
I think, we can blame greedy bartenders in part for making people drink very cold beverages. They fill your glass with ice to save on liquor. I remember in Greece, a bartender was putting one or two ice cubes in my drink just to chill it to a nice temperature. When I asked why he is not filling the glass with ice, he said: “You are paying me for the drink, not for the cold.”

I have also been told that you should not have anything to drink(including water)with a meal or for 2 hours after because it dilutes stomach acids and digestive enzymes making it very hard on your system. Any truth to this?

  9. Roger says:

    Hey Kim,
If you have digestive problems it’s a good idea to not drink with a meal. If you must, a warm beverage is best.
