Arthritis is a classic example but even heart disease falls into this pattern. Both are usually present states of health that suddenly show up but in reality were building for many years.

Chinese herbology would use the concept of “deficiencies” in describing the same thing. When the body is deficient in the actual substances needed to stay healthy (in the form of food grade herbs, nutrients, water or even sleep) it suffers in its ability to maintain the normal process of homeostasis.
The stress of being under nourished actually heightens the requirements for what’s missing and starts what we now catagorize as “accelerated aging”.
