Drugs Are Not The Only Answer

Dealing with hypertension/high blood pressure (HBP) can be one of the most frightening and confusing of all health challenges.  It’s also one that people tend to accept as their lot in life and just use drugs to control it for the rest of their lives.

It’s hard to think that something so deadly as HBP could possibly react to diet and nutrition but the fact is it does.  It’s also a fact that HBP drugs are some of the most health disrupting drugs in regular use by millions of people.


High Blood Pressure is Merely a Symptom

I’m not saying you shouldn’t use drugs – at first.  If you have been feeling awful and find out HBP is the reason, it’s wise to get on a drug to control it until you make the proper lifestyles changes needed to lower it on your own.  The problem is that most people accept HBP as a life sentence and never change a thing.

HBP is merely a symptom of a body spiraling out of control due to poor diet, nutritional stress, inflammation and chronic stress.  Change your diet, change your nutrition and reaction to stress and inflammation goes down.  Maybe in a month or two, your doctor and you can make a life promoting decision – to stop taking HBP medication.

Blood pressure is usually measured by the pressure of contraction, systolic, that forces blood out into the body, and diastolic, the pressure during relaxation when the heart fills with blood.  Systolic is the upper number and when elevated can be a marker for elevated stress levels.  Diastolic, the lower number, is directly related to the amount of inflammation in your arteries.

Your Ability To Handle Stress

Your ability to handle stress can mean the difference between life and death when you have an imbalance like high blood pressure.  Your arteries are already inflamed and the added tension from chronic stress is like adding fuel to the fire.  Chronic stress makes you more prone to developing cardiovascular disease, especially a heart attack or stroke.

Why does homeostasis break down?  Like any other system it’s depends on a steady supply of material to work.  In this case it’s the level of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that help control inflammation and allow it to work.  Combine that with a reduction in cortisol and homeostasis flourishes.

Mediterranean Diet

The Meditarranean diet is one of the best for naturally controlling HBP.   It’s based on whole foods, vegetables and fruits and small amounts of animal protein.  Most of the oil is consumed as fresh, uncooked olive oil.

The emphasis is on fresh, unprocessed food.

I’m sure a lot of its benefits are derived from what’s not in it – junk food filled with additives, artificial ingredients and rancid oils.

Although HBP might seem like a tough one to deal with through diet and lifestyle, you can definitely do it and your level of health will be evident everywhere throughout your body not just your level of blood pressure.
